چکیده

Among several different types of radio emissions discovered at Uranus during the Voyager 2 encounter in January 1986 is a very sporadic, bursty signal which consists of very narrow bands lying in the frequency range from about 3 to 10 kHz. The bursty emission was virtually undetectable from the dayside portion of the Voyager 2 trajectory but was observed out to beyond 300 % during the outbound trajectory through the pre-dawn sector. While the narrowband tones making up this emission are reminiscent of escaping continuum radiation observed near Earth, Jupiter and Saturn, the Uranian signals show large amplitude variations on time scales of a second suggesting a very different type of generation mechanism. •' '' '

Auroral Emissions of the Giant Planets

Auroras are (generally) high-latitude atmospheric emissions that result from the precipitation of energetic charged particles from a planet’s magnetosphere. Auroral emissions from the giant planets have been observed from ground-based observatories, Earthorbiting satellites (e.g., International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE), Hubble Space Telescope (HST), and Röentgensatellit (ROSAT)), flyby spacec...

Decimeter Burst Emission and Particle Acceleration

The radio emission of solar flares at decimeter wavelengths includes a variety of emission processes of a plasma thought to have a high beta. Very intense coherent emissions are observed at frequencies smaller than about 9 GHz. They are caused by plasma instabilities driving various wave modes that in turn may emit observable radio waves. Particularly important are type III bursts, caused by el...

Issn 1845–8319 on the Relation between Decimetric and Hard X-ray Emissions in the Impulsive Flare Phase

The emission of decimetric flare radiation, in particular narrowband spikes and pulsations, is generally considered to originate from accelerated, non-thermal particles. On the other hand, non-thermal hard X-rays (HXR) are well accepted results of such acceleration. Are radio emissions and HXR signatures of the same acceleration process? Good correlation of the light curves in the radio and HXR...

Parkes RFI Environment and Mitigation

An obvious issue with a low-frequency broad-band receiver is the degree to which the science data are affected by radio-frequency interference (RFI). RFI comes in two main classes: a) relatively narrow-band quasi-steady transmissions and b) broad-band transient signals. Very strong narrowband signals can result in non-linear responses which dramatically spread the signal in frequency. Transient...

Jovian narrow-band as generator of the Jovian millisecond radio bursts

We report on the narrow-band emissions observed in the dynamic spectra of the Jovian decametric radio emissions. Such narrow-band emissions are infrequent phenomena and are related to the Jovian millisecond radio bursts (S-bursts). From the Riihimaa catalogue (Riihimaa 1991) we select narrow-band events observed in Oulu (Finland) with an acousto-optic spectrograph (AOS) with a high time resolut...
